Pullur Sree Kannagottu Bhagavathy Kavu Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Pullur Sree Kannagottu Bhagavathy Kavu temple is located at Pullur in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Kannakottu Bhagavathy. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held once in three years for two days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 8 to Makaram 9 (January 22 and January 23). The last Kaliyattam was held in 2023.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Pullur Sree Kannagottu Bhagavathy Kavu temple are Iratta Kuttichathan, Anthikkolam, Anthigulikan, Bhootham, Bhairavan, Rakthajathan and Pottan Daivam theyyam on January 22; Pannikkulathu Chamundi Amma, Neecha Gulikan, Kannankottu Chamundi, Raktha Chamundi, Vishnumoorthi, Gulikan, and Aranyathu Bhagavathi on January 23.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil (square sanctum sanctorum) for the main deity. Some deities are worshipped atop small square platforms and under trees. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day.
