Makutta Kakkathodu Devi temple is located on the Kannur - Mattannur - Coorg Road at Heggala, in South Kodagu, Karnataka. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Devi. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival is held for two days in Dhanu Masam (December 22 to December 23).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Makutta Kakkathodu Devi temple are Muthappan theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Perumbuzhayachan theyyam, Kakkathode Devi Amma and Cheriya Bhagavathy theyyam.
The shrine has a chathura sreekovil (square sanctum
sanctorum) for the main deity. There are other small sanctum for other deities.
Other deities are also worshipped under tree and on small raised square
platforms.
