Sree Koodan Gurukkanmar Kavu Temple – Thira Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Sree Koodan Gurukkanmar Kavu temple is located at Kirachi near Vengad in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Koodan Gurunathan, Sasthappan and other deities that are worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 6 to Kumbham 8 (February 18 to Feb 20).

The main deity is worshipped in a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum – which has a traditionally decorated roof and walls with religious motifs. Certain deities are worshipped on square platforms and under trees. Some deities have small sreekovil (s). Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of great significance.

The important theyyams that can be worshipped at Sree Koodan Gurukkanmar Kavu temple are Koodan Gurunathan theyyam and Kuttichathan theyyam.
