Ramanthali Pazhassi Tharavad Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Ramanthali Pazhassi Tharavad Devasthanam temple is located at Ramanthali on Ezhimala-Payyanur Road in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy, Vishnumoorthi and other deities commonly worshipped in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held in the shrine for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 5 and Kumbham 6 (February 17 and February 18).


The temple has a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum – for the main deity. The walls and roof of the shrine are traditionally decorated. The upa devatas are worshipped in small sreekovil, under trees and atop square platforms. Vishu is an important festival here. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of great importance.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Ramanthali Pazhassi Tharavad Devasthanam temple are Thai Paradevatha theyyam, Sree Bhootham, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Pottan theyyam and Brahmanjeri Bhagavathy theyyam.
