Pallipram Puthiya Bhagavathi Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Pallipram Puthiya Bhagavathi temple is located at Kakkad near Varam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Puthiya Bhagavathi and numerous other deities worshipped in sacred places in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for five days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 26 to Kumbham 1 (Feb 9 to February 13).

The temple has a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum – for the main deity. The walls and roof of the shrine are traditionally decorated. The upa devatas are worshipped in small sreekovil, under trees and atop square platforms. Vishu is an important festival here. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of great importance.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Pallipram Puthiya Bhagavathi temple are Puthiya Bhagavathy theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Pottan theyyam, Kurathi theyyam and Kari Gurikkal theyyam.
