Kodakkad Cherumoola Puthukulath Illam Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Kodakkad Cherumoola Puthukulath Illam Devasthanam temple is located at Kodakkad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Puthiya Bhagavathy and numerous other deities that are worshipped in sacred places in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in the shrine is held once in three years in Malayalam Kumbha Masam for two days – Kumbham 21 and Kumbham 22 (March 5 and March 6).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kodakkad Cherumoola Puthukulath Illam Devasthanam temple are Kurathi theyyam, Puthiya Bhagavathy theyyam, Oorpazhassi theyyam, Vettakkorumakan, Velan theyyam, Chamundi theyyam, Vishnumoorthi and Gulikan.

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum for the main deities. Other deities are worshiped in smaller sreekovils and under trees. Some deities are worshipped atop square platforms. Sankranti as per Malayalam calendar in every month is the most important day in the temple.
