Vilayancode Shiva Temple – Pilathara – Kannur

Vilayancode Shiva temple is located at Pilathara in Kannur district, Kerala. This is an ancient shrine in the region and was destroyed by Tipu Sulthan and his army. The temple has now been renovated by believers. The annual festival in the temple is held in Dhanu Masam (December – January) and coincides with the Thiruvathira nakshatra.

The shrine is locally referred to as Polinjambalam as it was in a dilapidated condition for a very long period.


The temple has a huge traditional pond. The main murti worshipped in the temple is Shiva in Shivling form. The utsava murti is taken out during important rituals and pujas. Arattu for the utsava murti after festival is performed in the temple pond.

Shivratri is an important and auspicious occasion in the temple.

Vilayancode Shiva temple timing is from 4:45 AM to 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
