Parayil Puthussery Chathoth Kalari Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Parayil Puthussery Chathoth Kalari Devasthanam temple is located at Varam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to various deities that are commonly worshiped in tharavadu and kavu in Kannur region of Kerala. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in the shrine is held in Malayalam Meena Masam for three days – Meenam 12 to Meenam 14 (March 26 to March 28).


The temple has a small chathura sreekovil with a traditionally decorated roof. Other deities are worshipped on smaller sanctums, under trees and on raised for platforms. Sankranti and Vishu are important festivals here.

The important theyyams performed at Parayil Puthussery Chathoth Kalari Devasthanam temple are Bhairavan theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Thee Chamundi, Uchitta Theyyam, Karuval Theyyam, Kalariyaal Bhagavathy, Khandakarnan and Kuttichathan theyyam.
