Kodakkad Kakkarakavu Bhagavathy Temple Near Vengappara – Kaliyattam – Theyyam Festival

Kodakkad Kakkarakavu Bhagavathy Temple is located near Vengappara in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is an important Shakti worship center – dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The shrine is also dedicated to numerous deities that are worshipped in tharavadu and kavu in the region. The annual theyyam – kaliyattam – thira festival is held for three days in Malayalam Meda Masam – (April 27 to April 29) (Medam 14 to Medam 16).


The temple has a main small chathura sreekovil (square sanctum sanctorum). There are also other small square platforms and sreekovil for worshipping other deities.

The important theyyams that are part of the annual kaliyattam festival are Gulikan theyyam, Kannikoru Makan theyyam, Shree Bhootham Daivam, Rakta Chamundi, Sree Bhootham, Vishnumoorthi, Kakkarakavu Bhagavathi thottam, and the Vellarangara Bhagavathi theyyam.

The theyyam festival begins with the Kalavaranirakkal ghoshayatra.
