Thurakarathi Theyyam – Story – Information

Thurakarathi theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information, this is a female theyyam and is performed mainly in tharavadu starting from Kanni Masam (mid-September). As per Thurakarathi theyyam story, she is a parivara devatha of Kundor Chamundi. Thuram here means pani (job). She thus is an attendant deity of Goddess Mahadevi or Bhagavathy.

Thurakarathi theyyam is a peaceful theyyam. She holds weapons and also receives various kinds of puja offerings.
