Parakulangara Bhagavathy Theyyam – Story – Information

Parakulangara Bhagavathy theyyam is a Mother Goddess theyyam performed during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in both Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala. As per information, this is a ferocious form of Goddess Bhagavathy. As per Parakulangara Bhagavathy theyyam story, she appeared to defeat demons but her uncontrollable fury caused disturbance in the region. She had also given darshan to an ardent devotee. She was given a proper place of worship and a theyyam is performed annually to keep her calm and benign.

The theyyam is annually held at Edakkaal Sree Vishnumurthy Devasthanam temple (Nov 17 annd Nov 18), Kanhangad Thekke Vellikoth Cherakkara Tharavad Devasthanam temple (December 8 – December 9), Kannur Morazha Panneri Puthiya Bhagavathy temple (Jan 29 to Jan 31), Kanhangad Vellikothu Panayanthatta Tharavadu Devasthanam temple (Nov 21 to Nov 22) and Kanhangad Padinharekkara Unnamadam Tharavad Devasthanam temple (Nov 24 to Nov 25).
