The story of Kappalathi Pothi theyyam is that of Kumba Kappalathi venturing out of her village to watch Kaveri Vilakku Vela. She has seven brothers but when they went for the Vela they did not take her with them. But she followed them secretly but lost her away in between.

She met a Mavilan who provided her with tender coconut water. She went with the Mavilan.

The brothers started searching for their missing sister and few months later they found her to be pregnant in the colony of Mavilan. For marrying against their wish to a lower caste man, they cut her into pieces.
