Kalkkoora Bhagavathy Theyyam is a Mother Goddess theyyam that is performed in very few kavu tharavadu and temples in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information Kalkkoora Bhagavathy, is the manifestation of Goddess Durga (Devi or Bhagavathy) who appeared to annihilate Darikasura. The story of Kalkkoora Bhagavathy theyyam is that of her appearing before the main member of a family or taking abode or aroodam in a tharavadu or under a sacred tree. She sometimes protects the family or destroys the family for some reason. To keep her in control, she is given a place in home or sacred place. A theyyam is performed annually to keep her happy and content.
Kalkkoora Bhagavathy is a fierce theyyam. She has prominent silver protruding teeth. She also holds a shield and sword.
