Ilamkolam Theyyam – Information – Story

Ilamkolam is a fierce theyyam usually performed at night during the annual kaliyattam thira theyyam festival in Kannur district of Kerala. As per information this is a popular theyyam and is performed in numerous temples, kavu and tharavadu. The story of Ilamkolam theyyam is that of divine being appearing to protect the wealth and life of pious devotees from people who practice adharma.

The theyyam is offered prayers for peace and prosperity. It is also worshipped to overcome fears and for the protection of wealth and farm animals.

Ilamkolam theyyam is performed in numerous temples including Kannur Kodallur Palaprath Kavu Bhagavathy temple, Kalliasseri Kolathuvayal Chirakutti Puthiyakavu temple (Vayalile kottam), Thalikkavu Bagavathi temple, Mayyil Kandakkai Chalangotut Puthiya Bhagavathy Kavu, Azhikode Punnakkappara Padinhare Veettil Bhagavthy temple, Kalliasseri Anchampeedika Kelothparamb Chellatton Thaiparadevatha temple and Kalliasseri Puthiya Bhagavathy temple (Kappoth Kavu).
