Cheralath Bhagavathy Theyyam – Story – Information – Kandathilamma Theyyam

Cheralath Bhagavathy Theyyam is a popular theyyam performed during the annual Kaliyattam – theyyam thira festival in Kasaragod and Kannur regions of Kerala. This same theyyam is knownas Kandathilamma theyyam at Kayoor Alkizhil Bhagavathy temple. As per information Cheralathu Bhagavathy is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti (Goddess Kali). The story of Cheralath Bhagavathy is that of her appearing to defeat demons. She drove away evil doers and protected the wealth, livestock and life of her devotees.

Cheralath Bhagavathy theyyam appears in a ferocious form and she holds a sword and a shield. She is the sankalpam of Goddess Mahakali.
