Chekkippara Bhagavathy Theyyam is a rare theyyam performed in the Kasaragod region of Kerala during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam kothu festival. As per information, Chekkippara Bhagavathy appeared to annihilate people causing havoc in the region through mutiny and insurgency. The story of Chekkippara Bhagavathy is that of her appearing from the divine light emanating from the eyes of Goddess Parammel Durga Bhagavathy.
The deity blesses devotees with peace, prosperity and good health. She is also worshiped for defeat of enemies and for strength. Her temple is located at Chekkippara near the famous Parammel temple.
She appears in a ferocious form and holds a traditional sword.
The theyyam is performed at Vennoli Palliyara Ponnalam Cheruvathoor and Nileshwaram Angakalari Sree Vettakkorumakan Kottaram Paadarkulangara Bhagavathy temple.
