Padne Sree Padanna Mundya Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Sree Padanna Mundya temple is located at Padne in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi and other deities that are worshipped in Kavu, temples and houses in the region. The theyyam, thira and kaliyattam festival in the temple is held once in three years in Dhanu Masam. The festival is held for four days in Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 16, Dhanu 17, Dhanu 18 and Dhanu 19 (December 31 to January 3).

This is a big shrine with a lot of Devi and Devatas. The shrine is well maintained. The main rituals and pujas are held on Sankranti day (middle of a month) as per Malayalam calendar. Vishu is an important festival here.

The main theyyams that are part of annual Kaliyattam festival are Aayitti Bhagavathy theyyam, Ankakkulangara Bhagavathy theyyam, Asuraalan Daivam theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Thee Chamundi or Ottakolam theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Raktha Chamundi theyyam.

The annual festival witnesses rare pujas and rituals. The festival is also famous for melam, temple performing art forms, traditional cultural programs, dance, music and small fair.
