Chorodu Theyyatham Thengil Sree Bhagavathy temple is located at Avikkal near Chorodu near Vadakara in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other popular deities worshipped in theyyam kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam – thira – vellattam festival is observed for three days in Vrischikam 6 to 8 (November 22 to November 24).
The temple has a main rectangular sanctum sanctorum with three deities worshipped in the same sanctum. Other deities are worshipped in small chathura sreekovil and square platforms.
The theyyams that are performed during the annual Kaliyattam festival are Gulikan theyyam, Kuttichathan theyyam, Khandakarnan theyyam, Vasoorimala theyyam, Bhagavathy theyyam, Kattar Bhagavathy theyyam, Kali Bhagavathy theyyam and Asura Puthran theyyam.
Vellattam, Ganpati homam, prasadam ottu, thiruvayana, ilaneer varavu, thandan varavu, thotti varavu, naivedyam varavu, pookkalsham varavu, Kuttichathan vellattam, Gulikan thira, Vasoorimala thira, Karanavar (Guru) thira, thallappoli, gurusi tharpanam and Sarpabali are some of the important rituals that are part of the annual festival.
