Aryakkara Bhagavathy Theyyam – Story – Information

Aryakkara Bhagavathy Theyyam is widely performed in temples, kavu and tharavadu during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam season in Kasaragod district and in limited places in Kannur district of Kerala. As per information, this theyyam is famous for curing incurable diseases. The story of Aryakkara Bhagavathy theyyam is that of her arriving on a boat to see Kolathunadu.

Aryakkara Bhagavathy had crossed several tough currents and powerful whirlpools before reaching Kadinji Kadavu in Aryakkara. Here she was attracted to the fragrance of the flowers in a Champak tree. Her arrival at the banks of the river soon spread like wildfire. The king of region (Allada Swaroopam – Nileshwaram king) doubted the divinity of the Goddess. She showed how powerful she was by curing Vasoori or smallpox of Kanikkara Acchan within a couple of minutes.

She then reached the Champak tree on Kadinji Kadavu and disappeared.
