Tiruchendur Soorasamharam Festival 2024 Date – Tiruchendur Skanda Sashti Viratham – Festival

The six day Skanda Sashti Viratham and Soorasamharam festival is of great importance at the Tiruchendur Murugan temple. The annual Tiruchendur Skanda Sashti Viratham and Soorasamharam festival begins on November 2, 2024. Soorasamharam date is November 7, 2024. The festival concludes with Thirukalyanam on November 8, 2024.

  • On the first day of the festival the temple opens at midnight around 1 AM.
  • Devotees can view the Vishwaroopa Darshanam at 1:30 AM.
  • Udaya Marthanda Abhishekam of the Moolavar Murugan Murti is held at 2:00 AM
  • Sri Jayanthi Nathar Yaga Salai visit and puja are held at 6:00 AM
  • Uchi kala abhishekam is held at 10:00 AM. The main rituals during the period include deeparadhana, special puja at yagasalai to Sri Jayathinathar, Kapu Katuthal and darshan of Sri Jayanthinathar in Thanga Chaparam at Shanmuga Vilasa Mandapam.
  • Next session of puja begins at 4:00 PM with abhishekam to Jayanthi Nathar at Sashti mandapak and yasalai puja.
  • This is followed by sayaratchai deeparadhana, sashti mandapam deeparadhana and rakala abhishekam.
  • Golden chariot or thanga ther is held at night. This is followed by Ekantha Deeparadhana.

The same pujas and rituals are repeated on all the days.

On the Soorasamharam day, the utsava murti of Tiruchendur Murugan will go in a procession to the seashore at 4:15 PM.

The famous Soorasamharam act will be held around 5:30 PM.

Chaya Abhishekam is a unique ritual on the day. A mirror is placed in front of Sri Jayanthinathar and abhishekam is performed on this image in the mirror in the ritual.

The important ritual on Thirukalyanam day is held at midnight. The shrine opens at 3:00 AM on the day. At around 5:00 AM, Murugan goes in a procession to have a view of the penance of Devasena. Tholmaalai mattum nigalchi is held at around 4:35 PM. This is followed by the Thirukalyanam or divine marriage at midnight.
