Mathoor Kavu Bhagavathy Temple – Festival

Mathoor Kavu Bhagavathy temple is located at Mathoor near Omalloor, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. The shrine has huge kavu or grove. The annual festival in the temple is held on Uthram nakshatra day Malayalam Meda Masam (April – May). The pongala festival in the temple is held on Makara Bharani day.

The temple has a two tier chathura sreekovil and it faces west. The temple has a namaskara mandapam, nalambalam and shrines of upa devatas.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for various tantric pujas and rituals including abhishekam, kalasham and homams. Traditional performing temple art forms, ezhunnallathu, melam, traditional dance and music are part of the festival.

The temple also observes various other important Kerala temple rituals including Navratri and Thrikarthika festival.

Vinayaka Chaturthi in Chingamasam is another important day in the temple.
