Potta Madathil Kavu Bhagavathy Temple – Festival

Potta Madathil Kavu Bhagavathy temple is located at Potta in Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Devi. The annual festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Meda Masam (April – May).

This is a traditional Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil, kodimaram, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam, pond and shrines of upa devatas. The temple has a beautiful two tier sanctum sanctorum with beautiful sculptures on the outer walls.

The annual festival has several unique tantric rituals and pujas followed in Shakti temples. The festival begins with Kodiyettam and concludes with Arattu. Melam, traditional performing art forms of Kerala, dance and music are part of the festivities. The arattu procession includes ezhunnallathu, colorful kavadi, effigies of gods and goddesses and melam.

The shrine also observes various other festivals and rituals including Navratri with vidyarambham and Thrikarthika festival. Pongala is offered to Bhagavathi in the temple.
