Kumarankary Dharma Sastha Temple – Festival

Kumarankary Dharma Sastha temple is located at Kidangara - Thuruthy Road, Kumaramkary, Kottayam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Ayyappa or Sastha. The 8-day annual festival in the temple begins with kodiyettam in Malayalam Meda Masam (April – May).

This is a typical Kerala temple with nalambalam, namaskara mandapam, shrines of upa devatas and chathura sreekovil which faces east. The main upa devata in the temple is Goddess Bhadrakali. The temple is located amidst paddy fields.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for melam, ezhunnallathu, traditional performing art forms of Kerala, colorful kavadi, and procession.

The festivities conclude with the arattu procession.

The temple observes various rituals during the Mandala Makaravilakku Kalam (Mid November to Mid January).
