Muzhappilangad Kurumba Bhagavathi Temple – Festival

Muzhappilangad Kurumba Bhagavathi temple is located at Muzhappilangad in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The annual festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam (February – March) usually held on March 7, 8 and 9 (Kumbham 23, 24, 25).

The annual festival is famous for thalappoli, kalasam varavu and fireworks. On the first day of the festival, the ornaments of Bhagavathi arrive from Elevana. On the second day there is the ritual of Kalam Pattu. Last day is famous for 'Kalasam Varavu’ or ‘Kalasam Ezhunnallathu’, sacred urns decorated by flowers. This temple has one of the most numbers of ‘kalasam varavu’ in the region.

The rituals are accompanied by 'aayathan', traditional priest and the theyyam of Edalapurathu Chamundi, regionally known as elladathothi are other important events held during the festival days.

Bharani Thalappoli, is another festival celebrated here. It is celebrated on Bharani asterism in the Malayalam month of Medam (April – May).

The sreekovil of the temple is famous for its mural paintings.

The prasadam in the temple is turmeric powder.
