Muthupilakadu Sri Parthasarathy Temple – Festival

Muthupilakadu Sri Parthasarathy temple is located on Kottarakkara Sasthamcotta Road at Muthupilakad near Bharanikavu in Kollam district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The annual festival in the temple is held in Meena Masam (March – April).

As per history, the shrine was owned by Thrissur Ompilli Mana. Now the shrine is maintained by a committee elected by villagers.

This is a traditional Kerala style temple with a kodimaram (flagpole), nalambalam, namaskara mandapam, and shrines of upa devatas. The temple has a chathura sreekovil. The sankalpam of Sri Krishna here is that of Bhagavan advising Gita to Arjuna.

The annual festival is famous for effigies of Ox and Kuthira. Caparisoned elephants, melam, ezhunnallathu and temple art forms of a Kerala are part of the annual festival. The temple festival concludes with Arattu ceremony. Annual parayeduppu ritual is part of the festival.

Sri Krishna Jayanti is another important festival in the temple.
