Sreekariyam Puliyoorkodu Sri Krishna Swami Temple – Festival

Sreekariyam Puliyoorkodu Sri Krishna Swami temple is located at Sreekaryam in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The 8-day annual festival in the temple begins on Uthram nakshatra in Kumbha Masam.

The 8-day festival is famous for pujas and rituals, melam, Kerala temple art forms and other programs. The festival concludes with arattu on the final day. Kathakali on the fifth day of the festival is very famous. Utsava bali is also conducted on the fifth day.

The shrine conducts Akhandanama yajnam and annadanam on the first day of all Malayalam months.

This is a typical of Kerala style temple with a sreekovil, chuttambalam, kodimaram and pond. The murti of Sri Krishna worshipped in the temple is carved in Krishna Shila. The temple has a round sanctum sanctorum – vatta sreekovil. A unique aspect of the murti worshipped here is that he holds Venna or butter in one hand.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapati and Nagas.

The history of the temple is associated with Chempazhanthy king. It is said that the king and his entourage heard Bhagavan Sri Krishna playing his flute in the area. The temple was built after the presence of Sri Krishna was conferred by Jyothi Sastram.

Morning darshan timings are from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Evening darshan timings are from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The shrine is famous for Karkidaka Vau Bali Tarpanam.
