Kattadi Moothedath Sree Kiratha Moorthy Bhagavathy Temple – Thira Festival

Kattadi Moothedath Sree Kiratha Moorthy Bhagavathy temple is located at Kuruvattoor Kozhikode district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kirathamoorthy form of Shiva and Goddess Bhagavathi. The Thira festival in the temple is held in Makara Masam (January – February).

Apart from the two main deities the temple also has prathishtas of Nagakali and Gurudevan.

This is a traditional temple belonging to an ancient Nair family. The shrine is famous for conducting Tira festival. Nair Vellattu is performed in the shrine on the festival day.

Melam, pujas and rituals are part of the annual festival. Women hold lamps and move in procession around the temple on the occasion. Various ferocious Thira and Vellatu are part of the annual festival.

The Naga pratishta festival in temple is held in Malayalam Meena Masam.
