Vengeri Sri Subrahmanya Swami Temple – Festival – Information

Vengeri Sri Subrahmanya Swami temple is located at Vengeri in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The shrine, located atop a hill, is dedicated to Subrahmanya, popularly known as Muruga. The Thaipooyam festival  in Makaram month is very famous.

The square sanctum sanctorum has the murti of standing Muruga or Subrahmanya. The beautiful  temple has a flag post or kodimaram. The shrine is accessed by a flight of steps.

The Thaipooyam festival (January – February) is famous for caparisoned elephant, temple music, various types of Kavadis, Shoolam, and Kavadiyattam. The festival is one of the most colorful festivals in the region.

The temple also observes Sashti fasting in every Malayalam month – the sixth day after Karutha Vavu or Amavasya.

The other festivals observed in the temple include Skanda Sashti and Thrikarthika.

The shrine is more than 1000 years old.
