Kathiravankunnu Sree Balasubrahmanya Swami Temple

Kathiravankunnu Sree Balasubrahmanya Swami temple is located at Chungathara near Puthur in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The sankalpam of Muruga or Subrahmanya worshipped in the temple is that of child form or Bala Subrahmanya. The most important festival in the temple is the annual Thaipooyam festival.

The murti of Muruga is worshipped in standing posture in a square sanctum sanctorum in the Kathiravan Kunnu Sree Bala Subrahmanya temple.

The Thaipooyam festival (January – February) is famous for temple music, various types of Kavadis, Shoolam, and Kavadiyattam. The festival is one of the most colorful festivals in the region.

The temple also observes Sashti fasting in every Malayalam month – the sixth day after Karutha Vavu or Amavasya.

The other festivals observed in the temple include Skanda Sashti and Thrikarthika.
