Erumapetty Shankaran Kavu Temple – Pooram

Erumapetty Shankaran Kavu temple is located at Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva. The temple is famous for the annual festival held on Makaram Pathu and is famous as Shankarankavu pooram.

The annual festival is famous for the ezhunellippu and caparisoned elephants.

Procession with one caparisoned elephant along with melam or panchavadyam is held in the afternoon (12:30 PM to 3:30 PM). More caparisoned elephants join for a grand display along with melam in the evening (4 PM to 6 PM). Processions with Kerala temple folk forms like Kavadi, Poothan, Thira, Karimkali etc visit the shrine during the evening time. Thalappoli procession also reaches the temple between 9 PM and 10 PM.  Single caparisoned elephant procession is repeated after midnight and next day morning.
