Azhakam Durga Devi Temple – Information

Azhakam Durga Devi temple is located at Azhakam village in Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple is also known as Vellithatt Azhakam Devi temple. The temple is one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala. The sankalpam is that of a virgin. The annual Pratishta dinam and pongala festival is held in Malayalam Meda Masam (April - May).

The darshanam of Azhakam Durga Devi is towards west. The round sanctum sanctorum (vatta sreekovil) is made in granite.

The murti worshipped in the temple is carved in stone and is chatur bahu with four hands. The murti hold shankh and chakra. The height of the murti without the peedam is 2.5 feet.

The Goddess is the paradevata of Azhakam village. The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Nagam and Rakshas.

Ayyappan Vilakku is observed on the first Saturday of Dhanu Masam (December).

Although there is no vigraham of Ayyappa in the temple, the sankalpam is that Ayyappa worshipped in Chottanikkara temple is residing at Azhakam temple in invisible form.

The temple is managed by a committee of local people.
