Ghodalagi Besha And Jamalagi Besha – Winter Dresses Of Jagannath In Puri Temple

The winter dresses are worn by the three deities worshipped in Puri Jagannath temple in the months of December, January, February and March.

Ghodalagi means specially designed winter dresses for the deities installed at Ratna Singhasana in Puri Jagannath temple in Odisha. During the period from the 6th day of the bright fortnight of Margasira to the 5th day of the bright fortnight of Magha (Basant Panchami tithi), the deities wear winter clothes. These are the months of December and January.

Jamalagi Besha

From Basant Panchami to Dola Purnima (full moon day of Chaitra), the deities wear modified winter dress known as Jamalagi Besha. These are the months of February and March.

These dresses are adorned by Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra and they give darshan to devotees in these dresses.
