Different Patterns Of Two Finger Formation In Hindu Puja

In Manasa Puja (mental or conceptual worship in Hindu puja), the different patterns of two finger formations are used along with beeja mantras of each element in nature to conceive offerings.

The lam bija, which is the union of the thumb with the little finger, represents the earth element offering.

The ham bija, which is the union of thumb and index finger, indicates the akasha or space element offering.

The yam bija, which is the union of thumb and ring finger, represents the offering of vayu or air element.

The ram bija, which is the union of middle finger and the thumb, indicates the offering of tejas or fire element.

The vam bija, which is the union of ringer finger and thumb, indicates the offering of water element.

There is also a single offering known as sam bjia, which is the offering of betel leaves, betel nut, lime paste and acacia. This indicates the offering of all the elements to the supreme reality.
