Akshayavat In Gaya

Akshayavat in Gaya is a sacred fig tree and an important teerth. As per Mahabharata this teerth is located in Gaya. The significance of Akshayavat is narrated by Pulastya Rishi to Yudhshtira while talking about important sacred places in the world. It is believed that taking holy dip in the Phalgu River here helps in attaining moksha.

It is believed that Shiva, Skanda and Goddess Bhadrakali used to reside under the Akshayavat.

Another famous Akshayavat is located at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. It is located in Patalpuri Temple at the Allahabad Fort in Prayagraj.
