Baijnath Mahadev is the name of a famous temple dedicated to
Lord Shiva at Agar Malwa in Madhya Pradesh. Wife of a British army personal
constructed shrine in 18th century after her husband was
miraculously saved by Lord Shiva during a battle in Afghanistan.
Lord Shiva is worshipped here in the form of a Shivling. The
Shivling is lavishly decorated during major festivals. Apart from Shiva,
Ganesha and Mother Goddess Shakti is also worshipped in the shrine.
The original shrine was in a dilapidated state before it was
built by the wife of a British army personal.
The Shivling worshipped in the temple is ancient and no one
knows about its origin.
The most important festivals observed her is
Shivratri. During Shravan month there is the Shahi Sawari of Shiva which
attracts thousands of devotees.
