Thottamon Kavu Devi Temple Bharani Festival

Thottamon Kavu Devi Temple Bharani festival is observed in Malayalam Dhanu month as per traditional Kerala calendar. The shrine is located near Ranni in Kerala and the annual festival in the shrine attracts scores of devotees. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The temple also has separate and powerful Naga worship place.

The main deity worshipped in the Thottamankavu temple is Goddess Bhadrakali - Sankalpam of Devi is Shantha Sworupa - peaceful form.

The 10-day annual festival concludes on the Bharani nakshatra day in Dhanu month (January - February).

A unique ritual during the annual festival is the Bharani Jeevatha ezhu nellikkal. The priests who carry the jeevatha of Bhagavathi swing the jeevatha to the accompaniment of traditional temple music.

The Revathi festival in Makaram month is another important festival in the temple.

Annual Kottakeyattam ritual is held on Mahashivratri day in Kumbha Masam.

The temple is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights for the occasion. Various unique offerings are made at the shrine during the period. Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period. Caparisoned elephants, melam, fireworks and sheevali are part of the festival. The festival ends with Arattu. The utsava murti of the deity is taken out of the shrine for ritual bathing on the final day. Caparisoned elephants and melam are part of the ritual.

The temple has a separate groves dedicated to Yakshi and Nagas or Sarpam.
