Ganga Godavari Janmotsav at Nashik

Ganga Godavari Janmotsav is observed in Magh month at Nashik in Maharashtra. The popular belief is that Ganga and Godavari are the same. Godavari is also known as Dakshina Ganga. Ganga Godavari Janmotsav 2027 date is February 16. It is believed that Ganga appeared as Godavari on this day.

According to Naradiya Purana, Sage Gautama brought Ganga in the form of Godavari to the south of the Vindhyas.

There is a Ganga – Godavari Temple at Nashik. It is located on the banks of Godavari River. People offer prayers here after taking holy dip in the river.

Ganga Godavari Janmotsav is annually observed on Magh Shukla Paksha Dasami Tithi or the 10th day during the waxing phase of moon in Magh month.
