Vaikunta Ekadasi at Sri Parthasarathi Swamy Temple in Triplicane Chennai


Vaikunta Ekadasi festival at Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple at Triplicane in Chennai is held on the 11th day of waxing phase of moon in Margazhi month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in Tamil Nadu. The most important ritual on the day is the Sorgavasal Darshan. In 2025, Vaikunta Ekadasi is on January 10. The Sorgavasal Darshan is at 4:30 AM.


Thousands of devotees patiently wait on the day to have a glimpse of Srihari Vishnu passing through the Paramapada Vasal (the gateway to Heaven). This particular entry point to the sanctum sanctorum is only opened on the Vaikunta Ekadasi day.

On the day, the entire temple is filled with the chanting of the holy name `Govinda Govinda.’ Special pujas are held on the day.

Vaikunta Ekadasi at Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple in Triplicane, Chennai, is spread over 21 days. The first ten days which culminate with the Mohini Avataram is known as Pagal Pathu. Then Vaikunta Ekadasi is observed. The ten days after the Ekadashi festival is referred as Rapathu.
