Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra to Held in August – September 2014

Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra in Uttarakhand, which was to be held in 2013, was cancelled due to devastating flood. It will now be held in 2014 from August 18 to September 6, 2014. Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra is held once in 12 years and is dedicated to Goddess Nanda Devi, a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti.

The yatra involves travelling by foot to numerous Goddess Shakti shrines in the Chamoli District.

The yatra involves a distance of about 280 kms, passes through great heights and glaciers.
Business Standard reports
The revised dates for the yatra, held every 12 years through the picturesque hills of Chamoli district, were announced today by Nanda Devi Raj Jat Samity chief Rakesh Kunwar at Nauti village from where the pilgrimage traditionally begins.
A detailed calendar of the yatra will be released on the occasion of Basant Panchami next year, Samity secretary Bhuwan Nautiyal said.
Special prayers were held in the village before the announcement to seek the goddess' forgiveness for cancelling the yatra, a major religious event for people of the region.
