Divaso is a unique ritual performed on the Amavasya or no moon day in the month of Ashada in Gujarat . Divaso 2024 date is August 4. The ritual is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and is performed as a sort of invitation to the Shravan month which begins from the next day. The holy month of Shravan is dedicated to God Shiva.
On the previous evening of Divaso married women light a lamp and keep it for next 36 hours - till the Shravan month begins. In some regions, seeds are sown in a small container and the lamp is placed before it.
The vrat takes its name Divaso from this ritual.

Friends, relatives and neighbors are served Kheer, Kansar or other sweets.
