Shravan Purnima, or the full moon day in the month of Sawan, is a highly auspicious day in Hinduism. Nariyal Purnima and Raksha Bandhan are observed on the day. Shravan Purnima 2020 date is August 3. The Purnima begins at 9:29 PM on August 2 and ends at 9:28 PM on August 4.

It is known as Akshar Purnima in Gujarat. The month long pujas dedicated to Lord Shiva in North India comes to an end on the Shravana Purnima day. Jhulan Yatra festival comes to an end on the day.

  • This Purnima is known as Gamha Poornima in Orissa. 
  • Kajari Purnima - this is observed in many regions in North India for a good harvest.
  • Hayagriva Jayanti and Yajurveda Upakarma are also observed on the day.
  •  In South India, Brahmins observe the day as Avani Avittam.
  • The annual Amarnath Yatra and Jhulan Yatra also concludes on the day.
