Hartalika Teej 2013 date – Hartalika Teej Vrat in 2013

Hartalika Teej is an important Hindu fasting observed by Hindu women and is dedicated to Goddess Parvati in North India. Hartalika Teej 2013 date is September 8. It is one of three Teej festivals and is mainly observed in North India and western parts of India. Hartalika Teez is observed mainly in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and is some parts of Maharashtra.

Popular belief is that by observing Hartalika Teej Vrat unmarried women will get good husbands. This Teez is observed by both married and unmarried women. Married women observe the Vrat for a happy and peaceful married life.

Hartalika Teej is based on the intense austerities (tapas) observed by Goddess Parvathi to get Lord Shiva as her husband. It is believed that Goddess Parvati will bless those women who observe the Vrat.

The fasting rules of Hartalika Teej Vrat are very tough and some women even don’t drink water during the fasting period.

Hartalika Teej is the most important of the three Teej - the other two are Hariyali Teej and Kajari Teej.

It is nice to notice that women have some beliefs in other powers to aid them in their marital life but it would also be good if practical measures were taken by the women to ensure a happy and peaceful conjugal life.

Haritalika Teej is a traditional pooja of Indians. At this day, wifes are doing fast for their husband and dooing "Nirjala Vrat" for the long life of their husbands. They do pooja of Shiv Ji aur Parvati Ji named as 'Gauri Gaura". These are made up of mud. all the suhagins are changing their "Bichiya" from old to new ones and wear it for one year unitill the next haritalika teej comes. They breaks their vrat with a little water and mithai given by their husbands.

This a matter of trust and you can always resume.

As a thumb rule, One should not break (health and some unseen situations are exceptions), but if you have to, It is always good to be back to practice at the earliest.

Hartalika Teez falls on 18th Sept 2012, in case you wish too.

You can do the puja at any time as the entire day is Tritiya Tithi. Sunrise to 9:23 AM is a good period. Noon around 12:01 PM to 1:02 PM is good.

I am breastfeeding a baby. Can I skip this year vrat? If not, what are the exceptions left for a nursing mother?

Maya Sharma said...

Yes you should skip the vrat. Pregnant women and breast feeding mothers should not observe any kind of fast as per Hindu scriptures.
