Sri Samadevi Sansthan temple is located on the busy area at Samadevi Galli, Belagavi, Karnataka. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Samadevi. The main sanctum contains a pitch black idol of Goddess in blessing posture.
About 75 years ago, during the period of Portuguese rule in
the state of Goa, there was a growing fear that Hindu idols and temples would
be destroyed. To protect the sacred idol of Shri Samadevi, members of the
Vaishnavi community carefully brought the deity from Goa to Belagavi, a border
district of Karnataka.
After arriving in Belagavi, the devotees installed the idol
of Shri Samadevi with great devotion and faith. Over the years, with the
generous financial support and contributions of the local people and devotees,
the temple gradually developed and expanded into a prominent place of worship
and cultural heritage.
Special Alankarams and pujas are performed on Fridays.
The 10-Dusshera festival is the most important festival at
the shrine.
