History and Development
The Shri Sai Mandir in Tilakwadi, Belagavi, was established
by K.R. Deshpande, who installed the idol of Sai Baba in the temple on 28 June
1940 at CTS No. 218/B.
According to local accounts, before the construction of the
present temple, devotees had been worshipping a portrait of Sai Baba for nearly
20 years in a vegetable market shop belonging to the Tilakwadi Municipal
Council.
The temple was built through the generous contributions,
donations, and support of devotees. Surrounded by serene natural beauty, the
Sai Mandir is located amidst sacred Peepal (Arali) and Neem trees, creating a
peaceful and spiritual atmosphere for worshippers.
The Shri Sai Mandir is inspired by Sai Baba’s teachings of
faith (“Shraddha”) and compassion (“Saburi”). The temple has grown into a
well-maintained complex, often expanded with contributions from followers. It
stands as one of the notable Sai Baba temples in north Karnataka.
Architecture and Layout
The temple’s design blends modern construction with
traditional Indian temple architecture. A marble idol of Sai Baba occupies the
sanctum, surrounded by oil lamps, floral decorations, and devotional symbols.
Facilities typically include prayer halls, a meditation space, and areas for
community dining (annadanam).
Religious and Community Significance
Shri Sai Mandir functions as both a devotional and social
hub. Regular aartis and bhajans foster a sense of shared devotion, while the
temple also organizes charitable events such as free meals, medical camps, and
educational aid. The temple’s calm atmosphere attracts both pilgrims and
residents seeking spiritual solace.

Major observances include Guru Purnima, Dussehra (marking
Sai Baba’s Mahasamadhi), and Ram Navami. These occasions feature special
