Located in the serene village of Kottukal (Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram) Thrikkottiyal Sree Mahadeva Temple stands as a testament to Kerala’s rich spiritual heritage. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is a classic example of traditional Kerala architecture.
Carrying the weight of centuries-old antiquity and
tradition, Lord Mahadeva resides at the Thrikottiyal Temple as a silent witness
to history and the ultimate source of prosperity for the villagers of Kottukal.
The main deity is worshipped in the form of Shivling in a vatta sreekovil. Ganapati is the main subsidiary deity here.
The annual Shivaratri fast and the Maha Utsavam (Grand Festival) are celebrated here with deep devotion. The festivities are marked by solemn rituals, a grand proclamation procession, community feasts (Samooha Sadya), the traditional Thalappoli, mass Pongala offerings, and a vibrant array of cultural performances.
Pradosham, Mondays and other Shaiva rituals are of great importance in the temple. Vishu, Onam, Mandala Kalam are observed here.
Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam is another important festival in the temple.
