The Sri Gundanjaneya Swamy Temple located at Kodigehalli Gate in Yelahanka Taluk of Bengaluru Urban District is believed to date back to the 13th century. The shrine is dedicated to Hanuman Swamy.
Sri Gundanjaneya Swamy Temple Story
This temple has a history of approximately 700 years. It is known that the deity was named "Sri Gundanjaneya Swamy" because the idol is situated in a naturally formed round-shaped pit (gunda) in a single rock.
It is also believed that Sage Vyasa performed puja (ritual worship) and consecrated the original idol. The present idol is believed to have been discovered around 700 years ago.
Originally a small stone structure, the temple was renovated in 2008 by the Sri Gundanjaneya Swamy Seva Committee.
Within the temple premises, there are ancient sacred elements such as the Ashwatha (Peepal) tree altar, serpent deities (Naga Devatas), and the Navagrahas (nine planetary deities).
Sri Gundanjaneya Swamy Temple - Festivals - Rituals
The important days in the temple are Tuesdays and Saturdays. Hanuman Jayanti in Margashirsha Shukla Paksha Trayodashi (December) is of great importance in the temple.
There is a strong belief that offering a "jaggery aarti" (a ritual involving jaggery) on Tuesdays helps devotees overcome their difficulties. Additionally, performing rituals like Abhisheka (sacred bathing), Theertha (holy water offering), and offering garlands of vada (savory fritters) to the main deity is said to fulfill vows and bring solutions to various problems faced by devotees.
