Kanjirod Pulidaivam Kavu Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Kanjirod Pulidaivam Kavu temple (also written as Kanhirode Pulideva Kavu or Kanhirod Puli Daivam temple) is located at Kanjirod near Eachur – Machery in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to various Puli Daviangal (Manifestation of Shiva and Goddess Parvati and their children). The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held at Kanjirod Pulidaivam Kavu temple in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 11 to Kumbham 13 (February 23 to Feb 25).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kanjirod Pulidaivam Kavu temple are Karinthiri Kannan, Appakkalan, Kalapuliyan, Pulli Karinkali, Puliyoor Kali, Pulikandan, Pulikannan, Kallinkal Pookkulavan and Valiya Thamburatti.

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deities. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Other deities are worshipped in smaller chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshiped atop raised square platforms. Certain deities are worshiped under trees. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of significance here. Vishu festival is of importance here.
