Karayappath Kovvappurathu Thondachan Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Karayappath Kovvappurathu Thondachan Devasthanam temple is located at Kodallur near Parassinikadavu in Kannur district of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Kathivanoor Veeran and Thondachan – two warrior deities that are part of legend in this region. The annual theyyam – kaliyattam – thira festival is held for three days in Malayalam Meda Masam – (April 21 and April 22) (Medam 8 and Medam 9).


The temple has a main small chathura sreekovil (square sanctum sanctorum). There are also other small square platforms and sreekovil for worshipping other deities.

The shrine offers special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day as per Malayalam calendar. Vishu is an important festival in the temple.

The important theyyams that are part of the annual kaliyattam festival are Kathivanoor Veeran theyyam, Thondachan Daivam,  Kandanar Kelan and Vayanatu Kulavan theyyam.
