Angatheyyam – Story – Information

Angatheyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam – kaliyattam – thira festival in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information, the theyyam is associated with hunting or war. Angatheyyam is believed to have helped a famous ruling family in the war.

Anga Theyyam  is performed for protection and to defeat enemies. The theyyam holds a sword and shield.


Angatheyyam is performed Kannur Azhikode Sree Palottu Kavu temple and Kalliasseri Kattyam Movvangethu temple. The theyyam is seen along with Karanavar theyyam.
