Keecheri Sree Palottu Kavu Temple – Festival - Theyyam Kaliyattam

Keecheri Sree Palottu Kavu temple is located at Keechery near Pappinisseri in Kannur district, Kerala. The annual festival in the temple begins on Medam 1. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Vishnu. The Kaliyattam theyyam festival here is known as Vishu Vilakku as it coincides with the Vishu Sankramana (April 14 or April 15).

This is a typical Kerala style temple with a square pond having numerous steps in design. The temple has a rectangular sreekovil.  The upa devatas worshipped here are Kurathi Amma and Kundor Chamundi.

The festival begins with traditional fireworks.

Theyyam is performed here during the 7-day annual festival. On all seven days along with Palottu Theyyam, Angatheyyam is performed. The thirumudi of the kolam here is unique and extremely beautiful as it represents the crown of Vishnu and golden fish. Thenga yerru (throwing and breaking of coconuts) is another ritual performed here on the 7th day of the festival (Medam 7). Kurathi Amma kolam and Kundor Chamundi kolam are part of the theyyam festival here.

The temple also observes Niraputhari and Adiyanthiram.
